Units - 24th Foot 1745

These are the only figures I have from the Jacobite range, I think swapped with Harry for some S Range Ancients. A recent burst of painting activity saw me complete them, as something a bit different. I used the picture from the Blandford on British Infantry Uniforms as a guide. It looks very likely this was also used as the reference for the original figure.

They are of the chubbier S Range build, such as the Crimeans and Franco Prussian range also have - it seems to be a sort of transition towards the current generation Minifigs. (The Napoleonic Range seemed to have an intermediate stage, where the figures were redone with this build, not the full fledged chubby gnome look, and had the figure serial numbers embossed on the top of the base. At some pont, when I have much more time than I have anything important to do, I may go through old Wargamer's Newsletters for the S Range ads to build a timeline of roughly what parts of the S Range came out when.

You are absolutely right, I used the 24th foot illustration to paint the one that I finished. I used a chromate primer from the model railway shop which was a repulsive sulpher yellow but protected the figure for years.

I filed the bayonets and also the bases into what I thought was an elegant shape. Then as a wargamer I lost interest and passed them on to Hrry a few years ago. Its nice to see them finally painted.

I bought 50 highlanders at the same time and five mounted Grenadiers which I painted these ended up in a diorama at an hotel in Glencoe (I think).

I ordered rather more than that but they never were supplied.Minifigs sent me a credit note instead and kept my money. So advertisements were at best a rough indication of what was actually available.

I was so disgusted with their treatment that I never bought another S range figure! That is at least until last month when I bought the first one for 40 years again.

John

What was it that you bought last month then, John?

Well, and this is in strict confidence you understand.

I was able to pick up a small 20m Crimean collection in August. I have kept it wrapped waiting for Christmas, but I was able to add a few Zouaves to it last week. I would guess they are FPW but who can tell with Zouaves?

Hi John, there are confirmed pictures of the Crimean and Franco Prussian War Zouave types elsewhere on the blog here - FCr 5s and FFP 6s
