S Range Colonials

In the second half of last year one of my projects was my British and Empire S Range Colonial Force.

My main colonial armies are Jacklex but I was able to assemble a reasonable quantity of the S Range figures which I also like.

The standard British Colonial infantry lend themselves to variety through painting of different uniforms - so here we have standard British, Royal Marine Light Infantry, and Rifle Brigade versions.

Then you have to have some Highlanders

Sikhs

and Gurkhas

The five Gurkhas to the right are the S Range figures and the one on the left the Minifigs 20mm figure, which I prefer. I have fuller units of both types but I need to take more photos.

Finally you always need some mountain artillery

I don't currently have any S Range British Cavalry but I do have quite a few of these Minifigs 20mm lancers, as well as Indian counterparts - I'll just have to fund them before I can photgraph them.

Finally a rather stylish Minifigs 20mm Highlander officer.

PFPC 4s FPW Prussian Uhlan

From the same lot as the Prussian hussars, Prussian Uhlans, again only needing rebasing.

PFPC 3s FPW Prussian Hussar

These came in quite a large lot of original figures painted in a pleasing old school gloss style. I need only to rebase them.

FFPC 2s FPW French Dragoom

I thought it might be worth putting these two pictures together. The top row are my more recent acquisitions, painted as line dragoons in the new blue uniform; the lower photograph of a unit painted in the earlier green uniform or as Guard.

PFPC 1s Prussian Cuirassier

These guys mean business but this might be because of their overlong swords.

FFPC 3s FPW French Hussar

This is (I am fairly sure) the French Hussar rather than the French Chasseur a Cheval, but if anyone could confirm either way I would be grateful. As well as FPW duties this unit will serve in my projected Georland campaigns.

I am in a particularly productive painting run of finishing off units which have been part done for a long time. I'm working on both the French and Egyptian campaign figures and my remaining FPW - small units of Prussian Dragoons and Bavarian Light Horse and a few Generals each side.

I have also done a second unit of French Dragoons (the first were green coated as Guard types, or a line unit in the older uniform. The photograph is too blurry so they will appear at some time in the future when I have been able to retake a better one.

FCrC 2s Spahi

I was in two minds over these. They came in a large lot of figures, most of which were vintage S Range, but these were clearly pirated copies and not particularly well done -detail was not crisp. Ordinarially I might have thrown them away buton a whim I decided to paint them, and try them on the S Range charging horses which add a little elan. I think in the end they have come out ok and provide a colourful unit.

Along with my other Crimean and FPW units the intention is these will form part of the Georland forces once I get round to it.

Identification help please - Hundred Years War cavalry

I have a number of cavalry figures from the Hundred Years War range and Crecy, Poitiers and possibly Agincourt sub ranges. As they carry no code numbers and there are a number of figures with similar descriptions, I have not been able to identify any of them with confidence, If anyone can therfore identify any of the following figures with any authority, I would be very glad to hear from you via comments. The sixth figure down is holding a sword down his side, obscured by the camera angle - sorry!

Hundred Years War Range

Minifigs produced a number of S Range medieval ranges. The Hunderd Years war range comprised thirteen foot and three mounted figures. There were also sub ranges for the Crecy, Poitiers and Agincourt periods which between them added a further eighteen fooy and twelve mounted figures. The original catalogues I have only list the main Hundered Years War range so the other listings are taken from Vintage 20mil.

HYWC 1s Mounted knight with battle axe (Gothic)

No pictire of this figure is currently available

HYWC 2s Mounted knight with sword (closed helmet)

No picture of this figure is currently available

HYWC 3s Mounted knight with lance (open helmet)

No picture of this figure is currently available

Hiundred Years War Crecy Period 1300-1350

In addition to the main hHunderd Years War range there were three sub ranges, relating to specific periods during the war and relating to the three great battles of Crecy, Poitiers and Agincourt. I presume this was so you could tailor your armies to narrower periods, better representing changes in weapons and armour, while also being able to draw on suitable figures from the main Hundred Years War range. The listings for these three sub ranges given here are taken from Vintage 20mil - I don't have any original catalogues with them listed. The first of these three sub ranges covered crecy and comprised 6 foot and 4 mounted figures.
