Unit pictures - Jacobite Rebellion

Three unit pictures - hanoverian infantry regiment, with their grenadiers but awaiting their drummer and colours: a unit if Highlandres; and a regiment of Government Highklanders. These last are SYW figures (ESW 12s and 13s).

Jacobite Rebellion: S Range and Lamming SYW

I have been mainly in the second half of the nineteenth century recently (see the next few posts) but I have also been looking at figures for the '45 Jacobite Rebellion. I have made slow progress on my S Range figures for the conflict, and was disappointed to decide I couldn't use them alongside the Lamming SYW figures I bought at auction from Bill Lamming. However, I have decided to base both sets of figures in the same way, so this picture shows S range English Jacobite Rebellion Infantry mounted on pennies and then placed in War Bases 1p movement trays. I still need to source flags for the English units and their Jacobite opposition.

Linoleum and Araldite

An hour spent profitably this evening with a pair of sidecutters removing linoleum bases which had been araldited to some old figures confirmed an exciting find. A deal with Harry for some old S Range English Civil war figures he had picked up from e-bay a while ago included a contingent of Scots. Around half of these are ECW 17s and 19s archers and swordsmen, but removing the linoleum and squinting at the bases confirmed what I had hoped for, that the other figures were from the small Jacobite Rebellion range.

I have added pictures of individual figures to the original blog posts for these codes. I now against all expectations have a small Jacobite force as a counterweight to the 1745 24th Foot, posted earlier here.

I still have neither figures nor photos of JR 4s and 12s (Highlander in kilt with musket, and Highlander attacking), JR 11s Hanoverian Grenadier advancing, and JRC 2s Prince's Lifeguard and JRC 3s, Hanoverian Dragoon.If anyone has these figures and can supply photographs, I would be very glad to receive them, as usual using the "contacting The Old Metal Detector" details given in the right hand column of this blog.

There is also an ECW piper figure (ECW 18s) and I can't guarantee that the figure pictured is not this one - my example has no code scratched on the underside of its base, and also looks as if it might be pirated or home cast. I don't know whether the pipers in the two ranges were the same figure coded differently, pr different figures.

On the positive side I now seem to dispose of more Jacobite cavalry than either of the Pretenders...

Units - 24th Foot 1745

These are the only figures I have from the Jacobite range, I think swapped with Harry for some S Range Ancients. A recent burst of painting activity saw me complete them, as something a bit different. I used the picture from the Blandford on British Infantry Uniforms as a guide. It looks very likely this was also used as the reference for the original figure.

They are of the chubbier S Range build, such as the Crimeans and Franco Prussian range also have - it seems to be a sort of transition towards the current generation Minifigs. (The Napoleonic Range seemed to have an intermediate stage, where the figures were redone with this build, not the full fledged chubby gnome look, and had the figure serial numbers embossed on the top of the base. At some pont, when I have much more time than I have anything important to do, I may go through old Wargamer's Newsletters for the S Range ads to build a timeline of roughly what parts of the S Range came out when.
