I am indebted to Harry for a copy of a very early Miniature Figurines catalogue. This includes the HO/OO range (20mm); the first S Range figures (Ancients, Hundred Years War, Medieval, English Civil War, Jacobite Rebellion, Seven Years War, American War of Independence, Napoleonic, Crimean, and Franco-Prussian War), 30mm wargames figures with moveable arms, and some 54mm figures. It includes some brief uniform and painting notes.

Prices are given in pounds, shillings and pence but also with decimal equivalents, which suggests it dates from just before decimalisation, which happened on 15th February 1971.

The catalogue is particularly notable for having 21 black and white photographs of S Range figures with code numbers attached - this is very rare and gives some definitive identifications for some Jacobite Rebellion, Seven Years War, and other figures.

I have posted these photographs below, and will shortly add them to the previous posts for each of these figures.

The catalogue also states the intention of changing all cavalry figures to separate riders and horses. All the illustrated mounted figures are one piece castings.

As mentioned on Vintage Wargaming, I have also tracked down a couple of copies of the Miniature Figurines House Magazine Minimag, from a year or two later. In due course I hope to post some of the plates, of Peter Heath line drawings, and come of the articles and uniform notes contained in them.

Mystery SYW cavalry figures

Thanks to Tony of Prometheus in Aspic, who sent these figures, which had been soldiering on as a Spanish Napoleonic Dragoon Regiment.

Following earlier posts, here and following, I am not much the wiser about identifying the Seven Years War cavalry figures. It seems most likely that these are SYW , and there are two types, distinguished mainly by their saddles.

The personality figure seems most likely to be SYWS 1, Seven Years War general. The second type (photos 3 & 4) have a particularly long saddle cloth, although the effect of this is exaggerated by the lower part of their holsters being painted in the same colours as their horses. As ever, if anyone has any definitive information on these figures, please could you leave a comment.

They never made Lasalle...

Thanks to Jeff for sending me this figure. The painter seems to have deceided the nearest figure to Lasalle was Murat (but see comment below). However, the FNCX codes are for the later (current)range, and have the horse furniture attached to the horse. The S Range personalities were coded NS - Murat was NS 9 - and no Lasalle is listed. When I have a chance I will post a comparison picture of this S Range Murat with the Minifigs 20mm/Alberken one.

Marlburian Range

I have never had very many of these figures but I have always loved them because of their role in the Siege of Dendermonde series by Ron Miles in Battle Magazine in the 1970s. A small range providing all the major troop types, most of which could work for most of the combatant nations.

Seven Years War Range

I have held off adding the Seven Years War range as I had a very incomplete set of figures or pictures for it. However, John has recently sent me some more figures to identify so I felt that now there might be enough to make it worthwhile posting them.

There is a big "however", however: this isn't a range I ever collected so a number of identifications are tentative (where legible code numbers are not available under the bases).

There is also the possibility of confusing some figures with those from the American War of Independence, Jacobite Rising, and also maybe even Marlburian ranges. The following two posts contain some figures where confirmation or identification would be very helpful - you can do this by commenting on the post concerned.

In addition, if anyone has figures from this range which are not pictures and can supply photographs, I would be very glad to hear from you.

Is this English Line Infantry Standard Bearer ESW 7s?

The line infantryman is not from the Jacobite Rebellion range and the grenadier seems to match him, but is not ESW 3s (pictured elsewhere). Can anyone identify these two figures?

Are these Seven Years War? Or possibly AWI figures? If so, which ones are they?

If this is a Seven Years War figure, my best guess so far is RSW 5s Russian Pandour Grenadier. Can anyone confirm or correct this?

This figure may be FSWC 2s French Hussar. It does appear elsewhere on this blog as the basis for a unit of English Napoleonic Hussars in Mirlitons. Such a figure does not appear in any of the lists of S Range Napoleonic figures I have, although there is such a figure in the later Minifigs 25mm range, so this identification has always been problematic.

I am not sure of the identification of the figures in the second two photos, now I have the first picture from the 1971 catalogue, which provides a definitive reference. This figure seems to be carrying his musket higher and also has a plume to the left side of his cap.

Minor Minifigs Mystery - One Piece Crimean Cavalry

John has sent me these pictures of some one piece casting cavalry figures he has acquired recently. A small mystery, as the S Range cavalry I have seen for this range (including the heavy dragoon) have riders cast separately from horses. I have had an example of the Scots Grey myself for some time, though my figure is missing his sword arm. I haven't found any reference to these one piece castings in any catalogue or listing - can anyone shed any light on this?
